Waves

Waves is a 16mm screendance that explores the presence of the sea within a landscape where water is largely absent. Created in Salt Lake City and surrounded by mountains, the work emerged from a longing for the rhythms and sensations associated with the ocean. Through simple, continuous movement, two performers embody the qualities of ebb and flow, repetition, and return. The sound of waves accompanies the choreography, creating a dialogue between the film's physical environment and an imagined coastal landscape. Shot on 16mm film, Waves embraces texture, grain, and imperfection, allowing movement and sound to converge in a dialogue between absence and presence, mountain and sea, reality and imagination.
